Three Questions To Ask Before Building A Home In A Beach Community

by Dan Vasquez

No matter what state you prefer to live in, living in a beach community will be popular. Since the ocean provides endless fun via swimming, exercising, or watersports, singles and family alike enjoy the beach. If you are a pensive person or a person in a creative field such as writing, living near the quiet ocean will provide white noise and plenty of time to think. If you want a dream house on the beach, you can put together your own after purchasing a lot or you can purchase an already built home. Here are three considerations to make when you are looking at houses for sale in a beach community.

Can you have a kit home?

One of the questions that you want to ask if you are looking for land for a beach home is if the town allows modular homes. Modular homes have had to become a distinct brand separate from mobile homes since many cities do not allow mobile homes. Check for the particular city ordinances for modular homes or kit homes. If the city allows for kit homes, you can get a list of the modular home builders who have built homes in the community. This will give you the clear to look for a modular home at the same time you purchase your land.

How many times have homes been rebuilt?

In some coastal cities, the most you will get is heavy wind or rain during the spring season. In some cities, it is common for hurricanes to pass through and homes to be rebuilt. Having to rebuild your beach house could cause mental and financial stress, especially if you live in your home year-round as opposed to the summer season. If the homes in your area of interest are often being destroyed, you may be interested in looking at houses for sale a little further from the coast.

Is noise going to be a problem?

One of the biggest reasons people move to the coast is so that the only noise they hear is the soft waves of the ocean. If the beach community is located in or near a canyon, noise can easily echo. If your beach is a major spring break destination or a popular hangout in the summer, your days may be filled with a lot more voices than you bargained for. Determine just how many people come to your beach community of choice before you elect to buy a home there.
